Daystar: Providing quality products and services
The Daystar Group was founded in 1994 by Michael Soler, who had been the director responsible for new business development within the Gasan Group up until that point. Mr Soler has since retained a non-executive role at Gasan while developing Daystar. He has focused on the core sectors of property development and tourism, the two fields of expertise he had been building since the 1980s.
Since then, the Daystar Group has been involved in the refurbishment and operation of the Primera Hotel in Bugibba (1996) and added the Galaxy Hotel and Vacation Club in Sliema to its portfolio (1999). When these businesses were sold in the mid 2000s, the funds were redirected into further property acquisition for the Group.
Over the years the Daystar Group’s portfolio of properties included a refurbished and converted 19th century palazzo in Valletta, a villa development in San Pawl tat Targa, and a 20-unit residence in Swieqi.
To this day, the vision of a property base that guarantees sustainable future income is the Group’s policy.
Sound foundations for a solid future
The Daystar Group comprises two main holding companies, Daystar Group Ltd and Daystar Holdings Ltd. The Group’s main operations are presided over by Daystar Holdings, while Daystar Group Limited provides investment and management services to all of our companies throughout their various sectors.
We believe in our employees and their expertise, and for that reason it is our policy to train and develop the number of people who work for us. As the Daystar Group operates across different business sectors, a trained workforce allows us to maximise flexibility and respond quickly and effectively to the ever-evolving requirements of the international marketplace.
The Daystar Group is successfully run by experienced father-son team, Michael and John Soler, who are both directors of the company. With extensive experience across their sectors of operation, each brings plenty of expertise to the table. While the Daystar Group operates efficiently through flexibility, both directors have quite defined roles. Michael Soler is the Group’s Executive Chairman, while John Soler an Executive Director focuses on Operatons.
Mr Michael Soler is the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Daystar Group of Companies. The Group was set up in 1994 and has since developed business interests across the industries of real estate, tourism and international retail, as well as several other business sectors.
Mr Soler is also a non-executive Director of the Gasan Group of Companies, one of the largest business organisations in Malta with interests in automotive, engineering, communications, property, pharmaceuticals and insurance. Mr Soler worked for the Gasan Group from 1975 to 1994 and was mainly responsible for new projects and business development. Mr Soler is also the Executive Director of Townsquare Sliema Ltd, which is involved in the construction of a mixed-use property development, one of the largest ever projects undertaken in Malta.
Mr Soler was the Chairman of the Malta Development Corporation from 1987 to 1990 and also served as Chairman of the National Tourism Organisation from 1992 to 1995.
These organisations are public national corporations responsible for promoting Malta as a business location and a tourism destination. He was also a Director of Air Malta PLC for a number of years and has served as a Council Member of the Federation of Industries and the Malta Olympic Committee.
Mr Soler is also currently the Honorary Consul General for the Republic of Hungary, a position he has held since 1990.
John Soler has been a director of the Daystar Group of Companies since 2008. He is active in encouraging business that the company is embarking on, and his main strengths lie in real estate development and other related services, as well as in tourism.
Having graduated from the University of Malta in 2001, John joined the Sales & Marketing Department of the Galaxy Hotel. He worked there for two-and-a-half years, gaining valuable experience in the tourism industry. Additionally, his marketing studies have helped him to develop the different business sectors that the Daystar Group is directly involved in.
In 2004, John set up Star Enterprises Ltd, offering property-related services. This company has grown year on year, and has become wholly responsible for this area of business within the Daystar Group of Companies.
